About the Event

Session Objective: The simple goal is to “demystify“ the use of kinesiology tape / floss and provide the clinician with a more intuitive understanding of the efficacy of tape and floss as adjunct tools to complement any massage therapy practice.

Pain mitigation and movement optimization are two primary goals for any manual therapist. The addition of kinesiology tape and floss lends itself to the effective management of pain and refinement of motor control. The skin is really a megaphone for the brain. Applying tape and other afferent tools to this wonderfully responsive and adaptive neuro-fascial platform allows us an opportunity to refine input and ultimately retool output.  By tapping into the brain through the skin and fascial platform, we have the ability to create a window of opportunity for the patient to experience pain free movement.

The presentation is an evidence informed kinesiology tape and floss session that will advance the massage therapist’s understanding of the science and efficacy of tape and floss application as a performance and rehabilitation tool that can serve to mitigate pain, improve fluid dynamics and sharpen proprioception. Move. Live. Perform.

Learning Outcomes: 1) Students will develop an understanding of the physiological effects of tape application 2) Therapists will develop a critical appreciation for the adaptable, neuroplastic nature of the neuro-fascial system 3) Participants will understand the unique mechanical effects of tape and floss on the underlying fascia and connective tissue 4) Participants will have the opportunity to refine their taping and floss skills and experience the effect of tape application through practical, hands-on applications

Taping Applications:  Plantar Surface, Ankle, Knee, Lower Back, Shoulder, Cervical Spine

Floss Applications:  Ankle, Hip (Internal Rotation), Elbow

Teaching Schedule : Hour 1: The Science of Tape Application Concept Model (Pain Science / The Joint By Joint Model / Mechanoreceptor Effects / The Science of Fascia / Decompressing Densified Connective Tissue / Neuroplasticity / Stability versus Mobility) Hour 2-3: Practical Regional Tape Applications Hour 4: The Science of Floss Application Concept Model (The Effects of Compressional Input / Fascial Science / Pain Science) Practical Regional Floss Applications
